Transients in Electrical System – Module 1

This online engineering PDH video presentation will present information on the behavior of electrical systems during transients.
This presentation will review different types of transients including atmospheric, switching, electro-magnetic, or electro-mechanic transients. We will discuss the formation of travelling waves, resonant conditions and the influence of capacitors at motor terminals. The presentation will then explore the behavior of electrical lines during transients, motor behavior during starting, and the behavior of power stability blocs for voltage transience compensation and system voltage stabilization.
This 2 PDH video presentation is intended primarily for electrical engineers, technicians, and others who are interested in enhancing their understanding of how electrical systems behave during transients.
This PE continuing education video presentation is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding the behavior of electrical systems during transients
- Learning about motor behavior during starting (cross-connect system or variable frequency drives)
- Learning about the different generator excitations in case of generator output fault
- Knowing the difference between steady state stability vs dynamic stability for generators
- Learning about the different types of automatic voltage regulators
- Understanding the behavior of power stability blocs (PSS) and voltage transience compensation and system voltage stabilization
