Introduction to Steam, Boilers and Thermodynamics
This online engineering PDH video presentation discusses the fundamentals of steam, boilers and thermodynamics. This course describes the origins of steam, its theory, thermodynamics, how it is generated and its various applications.
The industrial revolution may have been fired by coal, but it was powered by steam. Humans have been harnessing the power of steam for thousands of years, but it is only in the past 200 years that we have started to rely on steam for countless industrial applications. The uses of steam are numerous, and they generally belong to one of the three main categories; heating, power generation, and industrial processes.
This 4 PDH online video presentation is intended primarily for mechanical engineers, as well as for engineers of different backgrounds who are interested in learning more about the uses of steam, its thermodynamic principles, and the different types of boilers used in various engineering applications.
This continuing education video presentation is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Familiarizing with the history of steam in engineering
- Understanding why steam is used instead of other energy fluids
- Learning about steam properties
- Learning about the fundamentals of heat and heat transfer
- Learning about combustion theory
- Exploring the design, the advantages and disadvantages of boilers and their typical applications
