Note: This is a recorded video presentation and does not qualify as a live interactive course nor a live webinar.

Course Highlights

This engineering online PDH video presentation will present the technical knowledge required by designers and engineer-led operators to ensure LNG and other petrochemical plants operate safely and reliably. This course is Part 4 of a 10-Part series.

LNG plants and other petrochemical plants are built to bring a return on investment to their investors through their safe operation. This training covers LNG technologies at both a technical and human resource development level. It will help you design, operate, or maintain an LNG facility; however, many LNG topics can also apply to other petrochemical plants.  This training is intended to present technical materials to help develop a clear understanding of an LNG facility's safe and efficient operation It is intended to give the learner the intermediate technical knowledge needed to make informed planning, maintenance, and operating decisions to ensure plant safety, reliability, and efficiency. The most crucial intention of this training is to give you technical knowledge on how to continue making the liquid natural gas industry safe and reliable.

The topics covered in this lesson include understanding:

  1. Characteristics of Boil Off Gas (BOG).
  2. What produces BOG, and what is the composition of BOG?
  3. Barometer effects on BOG production.
  4. The thermodynamics of flash gas production of BOG as a function of upstream JT temperature and pressure (thermodynamics of BOG)
  5. Tank protection from BOG pressure excursions.
  6. Hazards associated with unmanaged  BOG production (BLEVE, RPT, Condensation Water Hammers, Rollovers, and BOG from Spills)
  7. BOG production from ship unloading activities.
  8. BOG-related phenomena that occur when LNG contains nitrogen.
  9. Energy requirements for managing BOG.
  10. How a recondenser works.

This  3 PDH online video presentation is intended for engineers, designers, and technical personnel who are interested in learning about LNG.

Learning Objectives

The learning objectives of the complete 10 learning sessions are to understand, at an intermediate level, the following:

  1. How to safely, reliably, and efficiently operate an LNG plant
  2. General characteristics of LNG and safety
  3. Liquefaction pretreatment
  4. Liquefaction systems
  5. LNG tanks, valves, pumps, vaporizers, auxiliaries, and other LNG plant equipment
  6. BOG management and plant operations
  7. Transporting LNG
  8. Efficient operation of LNG facilities
  9. Importance of philosophies, procedures, maintenance, and modes of operation.
  10. Understanding the thermodynamic relationship that governs the behavior of zeotropic hydrocarbons.

This Part 4 of 10 session is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

1. Learning about BOG production and the associated hazards.

2. Familiarizing with the phenomena associated with BOG production

3. Learning about BOG production when unloading an LNG ship

4. Understanding BOG composition

5. Explaining how strangely low BOG production rate is when N2 is in the LNG

6. Learning about the energy needed to manage BOG

7. Knowing how to use a recondenser
