Illinois State Requirements
PDH's Required:
30 Units
Renewal Period:
Biennial by November 30 of odd years for Professional Engineers. Biennial by November 30 of even years for Structural Engineers.
Course Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve courses. You must select a course activity that meets your State Board criteria.
Sponsor Pre-approval:
The State Board does not pre-approve continuing education sponsors.
Course Applicability:
The course must be relevant to the profession of engineering and may include technical, ethical or managerial content. In addition, of the 30 PDHs required, at least one (1) PDH in engineering ethics/professional conduct, one (1) PDH in Illinois engineering statutes and rules, and one (1) PDH in sexual harassment training shall be obtained each renewal period.
Online PDH's:
Professional Engineers and Structural Engineers: There are no limitations on the number of PDHs earned online. Structural Engineers, a maximum of 10 CE credit hours per prerenewal period may be earned for attending in-house courses.
PDH Deferral:
Up to 15 PDHs may be carried over into the next renewal period but shall not include the requirements of the Illinois statues/ethics or sexual harassment prevention training.
