Sediment Properties
This online engineering PDH course provides an understanding of the properties and characteristics of sediments and their implications for engineering purposes.
This course explores how sediments and soils originate from the disintegration and decomposition of rocks. The type and volume of sediment play a crucial role in shaping the physical and geomorphic characteristics of most stream systems. However, when excessive erosion introduces unnatural sediment loads, streams and water bodies respond by either filling with sediment or altering their shape and structure.
This 2 PDH online course is applicable to civil and geotechnical engineers, as well as other professionals who are interested in learning more about sediment properties.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Learning how to identify the sources of sediment and the processes involved in sediment formation
- Knowing how to describe the physical properties of sediment, including sediment particle characteristics such as size, shape, and specific gravity
- Learning how the bulk properties of deposits affect the characteristics of the sediment
- Explaining how the size frequency distribution of sediments can be measured
- Understanding the difference in sediment textures and their implications for engineering purposes
