Roadway Lighting Design
This online engineering PDH course will provide a history and requirements for use in roadway lighting design. Lighting design for various roadway classifications will be discussed. Conventional lighting equipment, such as light sources, luminaires, luminaire supports and bracket arms will be presented. Requirements for average initial illumination level and uniformity ratio for conventional and high mast lighting will be provided. Design criteria will be discussed and referenced to the appropriate manual. Light pole spacing arrangements and IES light distributions will be discussed as to how they affect lighting. Even though various off-the-shelf computer programs are available to determine light pole spacing, the original basic calculations for spacing will be included in this course.
Roadway lighting design is a key component in many roadway design projects. It is important for designers in all areas of roadway design to understand the basics of roadway lighting design.
This 2 PDH online course is intended for engineers and planners who are interested in learning the basics of roadway lighting design.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Objectives of roadway lighting
- Analyzing lighting needs
- Lighting equipment
- Types of roadway lighting – conventional, highmast, sign and underdeck
- Lighting design requirements – mounting height restrictions, project coordination, maintenance of existing lighting, voltage drop criteria and grounding
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the course document titled “Roadway Lighting Design”.
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifteen (15) questions to earn 2 PDH credits. The quiz will be based on the course material.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.)
