Principles of HVDC Transmission
This online engineering PDH course provides an introduction to HVDC technology including review of the key terms, valve arrangements, substation design, operation and protection and essential voltage control.
The question that is frequently discussed is: “Why does anyone want to use D.C. transmission?” One reply is that electric losses are lower, but this is not true. Amount of losses is determined by the rating and size of chosen conductors. Both D.C. and A.C. conductors, either as transmission circuits or submarine cables can generate lower power losses but at increased cost since the bigger cross-sectional conductors will typically lead to lower power losses but will unfortunately cost more.
This 4 PDH online course is suitable for engineers with a desire to understand the basic principles of HVDC transmission.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding the basic HVDC terminology
- Learning about HVDC valve group arrangements (six and twelve pulse)
- Learning about HVDC substation arrangements and design
- Learning about HVDC system operation and protection
- Learning about Essential HVDC voltage control
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the course document which is based on HVDC theory and widely adopted concepts.
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of thirty (30) questions to earn 4 PDH credits.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.) For your convenience, we will also email it to you. Please note that you can log in to your account at any time to access and print your Certificate of Completion.
