Overview of Thermowells
This online engineering PDH course introduces the basic concepts of thermowells in temperature measurement and discusses the associated terminology. It describes the thermowell and its elements. It describes the installation of thermowells and issues to consider when using them.
A thermowell is a temperature sensor accessory that is a closed end tube providing chemical and mechanical protection for a temperature sensor that is measuring the temperature of a process. The purpose of a thermowell is to protect a contact temperature sensor from damage from corrosion or mechanical failure. Thermowells also allow for sensor removal and replacement without disrupting or depressurizing the process by providing isolation between the temperature sensor and the process environment.
This 1 PDH online course is applicable to electrical, mechanical, and control systems engineers, design and construction personnel, technical staff and facility operators who are interested in gaining a better understanding of thermowells that are used in many industries.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding the uses of thermowells
- Learning about the types of thermowells
- Understanding the different process connection types available
- Knowing what special types of thermowells there are
- Understanding the terminology associated with parts of a thermowell
- Knowing the materials used for thermowells
- Familiarizing with the standards used in thermowell design
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the course document titled, “Overview of Thermowells”, by Robert Steelhammer P.E.
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of ten (10) questions to earn 1 PDH credit. The quiz will be based on the entire document.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.) For your convenience, we will also email it to you. Please note that you can log in to your account at any time to access and print your Certificate of Completion.
