Overview of the Seismic Design Process Based on ASCE/SEI 7-22
This online engineering PDH course presents an overview of the seismic design process based on ASCE/SEI 7-22.
This course describes the seismic design process for new buildings and presents background information on structural dynamics principles that serve the seismic design process. Also, this course explains performance-based design as it relates to seismic design, discusses the design for tsunami, and examines soil-structure interaction as part of the seismic analysis. Finally, it depicts how energy dissipation systems can be used to modify the response of a structure to ground shaking and minimize damage.
This 2 PDH online course is applicable to structural and civil engineers as well as other technical professionals interested in learning about the seismic design processes based on ASCE/SEI 7-22 code.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Learning how to determine seismic design criteria: identify the risk category, level of seismic hazard, and seismic design category
- Understanding structure design: select a structural system, develop a preliminary design, perform analysis to predict the seismic response, ensure adequate strength and stiffness, and detail the structure to comply with system-specific requirements
- Familiarizing with anchor and brace nonstructural components: design anchorage and bracing for nonstructural components
- Understanding the background on structural dynamics principles that serve the seismic design process
