An Introduction to Hot Mix Asphalt Spray and Surface Applications
This online engineering PDH course addresses special design and construction considerations for surface and spray applications in construction and maintenance of asphalt concrete pavements. It describes the different types of spray applications including prime coats, tack coats, fog seals and rejuvenators.
Spray application is a term used to describe many different types of asphalt applications. More maintenance and repair work for flexible pavements is accomplished by spray applications of an asphalt material than by any other technique. When properly constructed, asphalt spray applications are economical as well as long lasting and are beneficial in treating or improving the pavement condition and increasing the life of the pavement. Where additional thickness is needed to increase the structural strength of pavements, spray applications are of little help because they contribute little to the structural strength.
This 4 PDH online course is intended for civil engineers and construction managers interested in spray and surface applications for asphalt concrete pavements for streets and highways.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Learning about prime, tack and fog seal applications
- Understanding the basic requirements for prime coat applications
- Learning about low viscosity asphalt materials
- Learning about tack coat application rates
- Understanding the techniques for fog seal applications
- Learning how to apply surface applications
- Learning how to apply slurry seals
