Foreign Voltages and Frequency Guide
This online engineering PDH course introduces the issues associated with designing low voltage and medium voltage electrical systems using components whose voltage and frequency requirements are outside the system's operating voltage and frequency. This situation occurs when using components designed for the United States of America market in foreign countries.
Initially, transformer theory is reviewed to present a theoretical overview of the effects of operating at out-of-tolerance voltage and frequency. Then, specific equipment that is used in low voltage and medium voltage systems is evaluated with respect to sensitivity to operation at out-of-tolerance voltages and frequencies frequently found in other countries. Finally, recommendations for derating equipment for use at these voltages and frequencies are discussed.
This 3 PDH online course is intended for electrical engineers, design professionals, as well as those who require a basic knowledge to enhance their primary responsibilities.
This PE continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
-
Understanding the consequences of operating equipment outside of voltage and frequency tolerances
-
Learning about specific low and medium voltage equipment affected by operation outside of voltage and frequency tolerances
-
Considering the parameters when operating a medium voltage iron core device outside of its voltage and frequency tolerances
-
Knowing the derating factors for 50 Hz operation
